Freezing time so the sandbox stays fun

Design

Google I/O 2026 happened in May. It's August. The countdown shows negative days, and minus signs make terrible physics objects. The initial assessment offered four paths — ship as-is (boring), generic countdown tool (too much work), count-up mode (quirky but niche), or freeze a demo moment. I went with frozen: Date.now() + 3d 7h 42m so there are always interesting characters dropping through the pegs. The countdown is a lie and the physics is the point. Sometimes the best design decision is admitting your app is a toy and leaning into it.
